York to Build 114 Affordable Homes, Including Bungalows for Disabled Residents

York is set to address its affordable housing shortage with a new development of 114 homes. The Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, dedicated to providing more affordable homes in the city, is behind the project. A public exhibition will take place at York College on 2 March, followed by a planning application submission to the City of York Council.

The development aims to tackle York's shortfall in affordable housing delivery, which has seen only 1.6 years of affordable homes delivered between 2012 and 2021. The proposal includes a mix of 1, 2, 3, and 4-bed properties, with around three fifths available for social rent. Notably, 14 bungalows are proposed to meet the needs of people living with disabilities in York. The homes will be built on Green Belt Land on the edge of York, with plans to create parking for the nearby football club. The project will be set in a landscaped setting with tree planting throughout, and some areas will be used for public use.

The Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust hopes for public input in the consultation following the public exhibition on 2 March. The City of York Council will then review the planning application. If approved, the development will contribute significantly to York's affordable housing stock, including specialist accommodation for people with disabilities.
