Water organ and footboat services temporarily suspended at DFG Saarbrücken, pending future updates.
The city of Saarbrücken has announced that parts of the Deutsch-Französischen Garden (DFG) will be closed for several weeks due to ongoing repairs and the regulation of water plants.
The repair work on the water organ in the DFG is already underway. According to the city officials, the issue lies in a burned-out control unit that requires complete replacement. The water organ, a popular attraction in the garden, is currently out of operation.
The pedal boat operation in the DFG is also suspended. This decision was made due to ecological reasons related to the strong spread of pondweed in the Deutschmühlenweiher, a natural body of water within the garden. The pondweed's stalks and leaves get caught in the paddle wheel drives of the pedal boats, blocking propulsion and preventing passengers from moving forward.
To address this ecological issue, the city of Saarbrücken is working with the Office for City Parks and Cemeteries, the State Office for Environmental and Occupational Safety (LUA), and the Environmental Protection Agency. The Office for City Parks and Cemeteries will take measures to control the spread of pondweed, while the LUA will coordinate these efforts.
The suspension of the pedal boat operation is necessary to prevent the spread of pondweed and maintain the health of the body of water. The authorities are working closely to find a solution that balances the enjoyment of the garden's attractions with the need for nature conservation.
The city is implementing measures to address both the technical issue with the water organ and the ecological issue with the pondweed in the DFG and the Deutschmühlenweiher. The repair work on the water organ and the regulation of the pondweed will be carried out in close coordination with the relevant authorities.
Visitors to the DFG are advised to check the city's website for updates on the status of these repairs and the reopening of the pedal boat operation. The city of Saarbrücken thanks its residents and visitors for their understanding and cooperation during this time.
