Velbert's 'Snake Festival' Offers Unique Kids' Vote on Picture Books and Games
Velbert's 'Snake Festival' on September 21st, a celebration of World Children's Day, will feature a unique democratic experience for youngsters. The public library, in collaboration with the Forum Velbert, will host a children's vote for images and games, offering a fun and educational way to introduce kids to democratic principles.
The KinderWelt program on the 1st floor of the library will focus on 'Children's Rights - Building Blocks of Democracy'. Children aged four and above can participate in storytelling sessions, creative activities like making a 'wish clock', and a 'Wheel of Fortune Quiz' to learn about their rights. The highlight of the day is the 'election of images and games', where young voters can democratically choose their favorite images and games for the library's collection.
Larissa Hilverkus, Velbert's Equal Opportunities Officer, stresses the significance of teaching children about their rights and democratic behavior through this election activity. Martina Saint-Martin, deputy library director, commends the election as an opportunity for children to make independent decisions about the library's content.
Both the Velbert Library and the Forum Velbert will be open all day during the 'Snake Festival', with library services available from 10 am to 6 pm. The 'election of images and games' is free and requires no prior registration, making it an accessible and engaging activity for children to enjoy on World Children's Day.
