Catching a Glimpse of Ukraine: A 10-Day Celebration in Münster

Mark your calendars! From June 10th to 20th, Münster bustles with energy as it hosts the vibrant and enlightening event, Ukraine Days. This public framework program, a collaboration between the city of Münster, civil society partners, and the Ukrainian community, invites every citizen to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Ukrainian culture, history, and perspectives.

During the 10-day celebration, various exhibitions, theater and film screenings, lectures, and readings will be held across the city.

An exhibition titled "War up close" will be displayed at the Bürgerhalle of the Regional Government from June 10th to 20th. With 360-degree views, drone footage, and 3D models, this heart-wrenching exhibition presents the brutal reality of the ongoing Russian war against Ukraine. Visitors can experience the extent of the destruction in Ukraine by donning virtual reality headsets.

On June 13th, renowned historian and president of the Ukrainian association of former Jewish ghetto and concentration camp prisoners, Borys Zabarko, will be delivering a lecture at the Erlöserkirche. Having survived the Holocaust as a child, Zabarko's life work revolves around researching the Holocaust in Eastern Europe. In 2022, he and his family fled from the Russian war to Stuttgart but later returned to his homeland.

Cultural events are not absent from Ukraine Days! On June 16th, artists from the Academic Music and Drama Theater in Vinnytsia will perform the play "Kvitka" at the Annette-von-Droste-Hülshoff Gymnasium. On June 17th, children from Ukraine will give a captivating performance at the Bennohaus with a pantomime theater, a project under the association "Ukraine in Need". In the second half of the evening, pianist Marina Polonskaia and tenor Konstantin Zhuchenko will present a concert program filled with Ukrainian songs, world music, and their original compositions.
