The upcoming destination for Sausalitos is Mainz's Ancient City district.
In the heart of Mainz, the vibrant Greek fusion restaurant "Ozai" is set to take over the former location of "Sausalitos" at Mitternachtsgasse 1, promising a unique dining and social experience.
The 34-year-old operator, Ezai Salim, is no stranger to the culinary scene, having previously owned several restaurants in Koblenz, Limburg, and the Odenwald. After a short break with his family in southeastern Greece and Athens, Salim is now back in Mainz, ready to bring a taste of Greece to the city.
Ozai will operate as a tavern, offering a fusion cuisine experience that blends classic Greek recipes with Asian or Mediterranean influences. The term "tavern" was chosen to create a less formal, cozy atmosphere, with the indoor area accommodating around 90 guests. The former cushion corner will be transformed into an "Instagram photo spot", while the old bar will be tiled and the mirror wall behind it will also receive a new tile treatment.
Salim has announced a regular menu, a monthly specials menu featuring seasonal dishes, and a snack menu offering cakes, tapas, and warm snacks. Cocktails, for which "Sausalitos" was known, will also be served at Ozai.
The kitchen at Ozai will be open from 12 pm to 10 pm, with music getting louder and DJs playing until late. Families with children are explicitly welcome, and Ozai aims to be a place where everyone can enjoy good food and a lively atmosphere.
In addition to its regular offerings, Ozai will also cater to corporate events, weddings, and milestone birthdays. The back area of the restaurant can accommodate around 120 to 150 people for private events.
Student discounts on food and drinks will be available, and Salim plans to document the journey to the opening of Ozai on the YouTube channel "Ozai - Our Dream Begins".
Ozai is not just a dining spot but also a place for social events and nightlife, with DJ performances adding to its lively atmosphere. Salim and his sister Cennet Salim aim to bring a "Greek feeling" to Mainz with Ozai, offering a fusion of traditional Greek flavors with creative culinary interpretations.
The restaurant will have a soft opening in mid-September for training and gathering feedback, with the official opening without guest restrictions in October. Get ready to embark on a Greek culinary adventure right here in Mainz at Ozai.
