The Season Immersed in Written Artistry

Get ready for a literary extravaganza this summer in Krefeld! This town's cultural commissioner, Dr. Katherine Leiska, has some exciting news - the "Literary Summer" series is back for its 26th edition, featuring four enlightening readings by both German and Dutch authors.

Starting off on July 10th, Christoph Peters' politically charged novel "Urban Death" takes center stage. This brand new book, a winner of the Lower Rhine Literature Prize twice, delves into themes surrounding the 9th of November 2022, covering topics like the Russian invasion of Ukraine, sanctions, and right-wing populism. Its literary hero is modeled after a historic figure: Wolfgang Koeppen, a post-war literary legend who reflected society's mirror during young West Germany's era. "The novel unfolds over the course of a single day," notes Dr. Thomas Hoeps, director of the Lower Rhine Literature House. Indeed, this novel promises to be incredibly engaging, as Hoeps suggests. Catch this captivating reading at the Fabrik Heeder.

Moving on to July 17th, Dutch author Sacha Bronwasser and her novel "What You'll Never See" are the stars of the show. Dr. Hoeps is brimming with enthusiasm for this book: "I was beyond impressed." Since the story revolves around a young woman studying photography, the organizers have cleverly scheduled the reading at the Hochschule Niederrhein, where photography design is taught. specifically to the Shedhalle on Frankenring.

Curious viewers may not be able to predict where this story goes, as Kristine Günther from the Mediothek describes it as "an odd tale." On July 24th, Dutch writer Fien Veldman's novel "Xerox" comes to life, complete with a package destined for the wrong address and a woman who embarks upon a unique relationship with her printer. The reading takes place appropriately in the office of Zweiplus on Königstraße.

No stranger to the literary world, Katja Lange-Müller is an established author who has previously received the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize and the Günter Grass Prize. On July 31st, she is set to present her latest novel, "Our Ole," which tells an unusual tale of three women and an autistic boy. Günther describes the language as humorous, while the characters appear somewhat melancholic. Come experience it for yourself at the Mediothek on Theaterplatz.

All readings commence at 8 pm, with tickets costing 10 euros (or 5 euros for students) at www.literarischer-sommer.eu. Those interested in attending all readings in all participating cities can purchase a festival pass for only 35 euros, plus an additional 1 euro per reading (or 20 euros for students).

The entire program for all cities is available at public places or on the official website. Happy reading, Krefeld!
