St. Johann Cooks: A Global Culinary Feast in Germany

St. Johann aktiv, a local association, hosted 'St. Johann cooks', a culinary event that brought together over 25 hobby chefs from the area and beyond. The event, held at the Waldgaststaette Bleichstetten, offered an international dining experience with a buffet of salads and desserts from various countries.

The buffet featured a variety of dishes, including Flan from Spain, Mohnrolle from Austria, and Halawet el Jibn from the Middle East. Locals also enjoyed traditional German dishes like Königsberger Klopse served by Jutta Hüser, passed down from her grandmother. Hermann Liebenow offered Bremer Knipp, a hearty winter dish once popular among the working class.

Visitors praised the event's concept of small plates and the variety of dishes. Erika Myke, a visitor, described it as 'simply wonderful'. The event also offered aperitifs, digestifs, and typical wines to accompany the dishes based on their country of origin. Emese Sigmond from Budapest served paprika stew Lecso, Tarhonya made from noodle dumplings, along with homemade fig and grape brandy, and Hungarian wine. Maribel Rosario from the Dominican Republic prepared a long-cooked bean stew following a recipe from her village.

The 'St. Johann cooks' event, organized by St. Johann aktiv, brought together locals and international flavors. With over 25 private hobby chefs participating, the event offered a diverse culinary experience that delighted visitors like Erika Myke. The event showcased traditional recipes passed down through generations and international dishes, all enjoyed in the company of fellow food enthusiasts.
