The Music Climate Action Pledge: A Sustainable Future for Live Music in Singapore

The Music Climate Action Pledge, an industry-led initiative, was officially launched in Singapore at the Skechers Sundown Festival in July 2025. The pledge aims to make music events more environmentally friendly by phasing out single-use plastics within nine months, focusing on the "big three" - bottles, cups, and straws [2][4].

The pledge is spearheaded by Skechers Sundown Festival, The Wedge Asia, and the Bye Bye Plastic Foundation. These organizations are jointly leading the effort to drive sustainability commitments across Southeast Asia's music industry [2]. Regional supporters include Scratch First/Wonderfruit and Believe (digital distribution).

The inaugural pledge cohort consists of 10 members: Sundown Festival, Groove Top, Ice Cream Sundays, Music Matters Live, Resorts World Sentosa, Sivilian Affairs, Somewhere Out There by Fabrik, Soul Collective, Tanjong Beach Club, and Wild Pearl [1].

To ensure progress, the pledge members will participate in quarterly meetings, access vetted supplier recommendations, track and showcase their progress, and collectively showcase their progress at the Music Climate Action Summit 2026 [6]. During the summit, they will also take part in an on-stage signing ceremony [7].

The pledge also plans to develop a collaborative impact report to showcase progress at the Music Climate Action Summit 2026 [6]. Over the next year, the pledge aims to grow its cohort across Singapore and the region [8].

The pledge calls on the live music industry to eliminate single-use plastics from live music events within the next 12 months [9]. It also intends to provide practical toolkits and peer learning sessions to support signatories in implementing changes [10].

The Music Climate Action Pledge is part of a movement towards a plastic-free live music culture in Singapore and the region [11]. The event is focused on sustainability in the live music sector and is a new industry convening for Southeast Asia [12].

The Summit features speakers from various organizations, including United Nations Entertainment & Culture for Climate Action, Music Declares Emergency, Singapore Environment Council, and more [12]. Organisations interested in joining the pledge or partnering with the initiative can learn more at the Sundown Festival Music Climate Action Summit or the Bye Bye Plastic Foundation [3].

The Bye Bye Plastic Foundation, a partner in the pledge, was founded by DJ and activist BLOND:ISH [13]. The foundation is committed to eliminating single-use plastics from events and promoting greener event operations [2][5].
