floating high above Tallinn's busy streets, the city's newest addition - the Lumière skyscraper - promises to redefine its skyline. Striking a chord with eco-consciousness, this sustainable architectural marvel is set to grace Tartu Maantee 17, nestled snugly near the Stockmann shopping centre.
The Lumière tower emerged victorious from an intense international architectural competition that garnered significant attention - a whopping 87 architectural teams from both Estonia and overseas submitted their proposals for the project.
According to the competition organisers, the winning design represents a groundbreaking, green-minded skyscraper that will integrate living spaces worthy of the capital into the heart of Tallinn's business district. The sustainable design thoughtfully maximizes natural resources and takes the local climate into account.
Quarted within the Lumière tower will be residential, commercial, and public spaces, including cafes, restaurants, art galleries, and wellness centres. Its crowning glory shall undoubtedly be the public viewing platform, offering a breathtaking panorama of the city from the sky.
Complying with the thematic plan for tall buildings in the region, the architects in the competition ensured their designs adhered to the 130-metre (427 feet) height limit. The Lumière tower is poised to soar 125 metres (410 feet) above the ground, harmoniously aligning with existing and planned high-rise buildings in the Maakri neighbourhood.
Marcelo Joulia, an internationally recognized architect, heads the design team for the Lumière project. Known for his edifices that span Paris, Dubai, Shanghai, Buenos Aires, and numerous other cities, Joulia envisions the Lumière tower as a symphony of nature and urbanity. The building's design is built upon two pillars: environmental sustainability and innovation - mirroring the team's dedication towards fostering greener ways of living.
Perched across Rävala Puiestee from Stockmann, the Lumière tower will be flanked by the intersection of Rävala, Pronksi, Liivalaia, and Tartu Maantee.
