Six Ecovacs Deebot robot vacuums were tried and appreciated, with one exception - the T50 Max Pro Omni left me unimpressed.
The HBO Max Pro, a vacuum-mop hybrid, was recently sent for review. Upon first inspection, the device showed promise with a quiet operation and quick auto-emptying process. However, during the testing period, several performance issues came to light.
One of the standout features of the HBO Max Pro is its increased suction power compared to the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro, boasting 18,500Pa compared to the X8 Pro's 18,000Pa. Despite this, the HBO Max Pro is priced lower, making it an attractive option for many.
Unfortunately, the HBO Max Pro encountered several problems during its initial cleaning session. It started in the wrong room, beginning the auto clean in the living room instead of the bedroom. During this session, the device kept cleaning one half of the dining room repeatedly until its battery began to run low, and no mopping took place.
After the initial cleaning session, the HBO Max Pro was unable to find the designated area for a custom clean in the living and dining rooms. This issue persisted even after a factory reset and re-pairing of the device. Furthermore, the HBO Max Pro had trouble with room or zone custom cleans.
One of the most concerning issues was the device's failure to wash the mop pads before starting a vacuum-and-mop session. This oversight resulted in ineffective mopping during the testing period.
During its second cleaning session, the HBO Max Pro registered a much louder noise level than any recent robot vacuum tested, reaching 77dB. This is a significant increase from the 61dB it registered during its first cleaning session on a fully carpeted bedroom at the highest suction setting.
These performance issues, coupled with navigation problems previously reported in the HBO T8 model from the HBO Max family, raise concerns about a potential navigation bug affecting some models or units. An old Reddit thread discussing navigation/mapping issues with HBO models suggests that the entire HBO Max family may be affected, although this is not yet confirmed.
In contrast, the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro, a flagship model, was found impressive and would be recommended for an all-in-one autonomous cleaner, despite its higher price compared to the HBO T30.
Given the performance issues, it is unfortunate that the HBO Max Pro, despite its potential, is currently unsuitable for recommendation. HBO should investigate these issues to improve the device's performance and user experience.
