LESESOMMER XXL Returns to Magdeburg with an Outdoor Closing Party
The LESESOMMER XXL, a summer reading promotion for children and young people aged 7 to 16, is back in Magdeburg, Germany. This year-long campaign encourages participants to read at least two books or other media from a pool of approximately 1,200 current children's and youth books. The event runs until August 8, 2025.
Registration for the programme is free and open to all interested children and young people until August 8. Participants can register in person at the Central Library or one of the local libraries in Reform, Flora Park, or Sudenburg. An extensive e-media offer is also available for those who prefer digital content.
To complete the challenge, participants must fill out and submit a review sheet by August 19, proving they have read the books. All participants will receive a certificate as a token of recognition.
The campaign culminates in an outdoor celebration and certificate award party on August 30, 2025, at "Nachbars Garten" in central Magdeburg. For the first time ever, the closing party will be held outdoors.
Participants can discover the extensive offer of exclusive brand-new children's and youth books and other media in one of the city library's facilities. The LESESOMMER XXL is part of a state-wide reading promotion supported by the public libraries and cultural institutions of Saxony-Anhalt.
The Fachstelle für öffentliche Bibliotheken at the Landesverwaltungsamt in Halle/Saale organizes and coordinates the LESESOMMER XXL. As of now, around 2,000 young readers are already participating in the event.
