Restoration Cost for Boat Station Located Aft of Makarov Bridge Set at 250 Million
In the gritty cityscape of Yekaterinburg, the Modern Dance Center put on a show to inaugurate the Makarov Bridge pier, the initial phase in the revitalization of the "Locomotive" boat station nestled at 21 Gражданская Street. The pier, modeled after a pyramid cut short, is a magical draw for athletes, adrenaline junkies, locals, and travelers alike.
The revitalization project was spearheaded by the AtmoFest festival, running from August 15 to 25 this year. The festival boasts an action-packed water sports program, and, for 10 days, morning yoga, pilates, and various practices will be offered on the pier's terrace. Yulia Sorokina, the festival's director, shared her thoughts on the restoration:
"We're embarking on the first stage of the boat station's restoration with care and reverence for its architecture and history. Our festival champions endeavors that uphold Yekaterinburg's cultural heritage and natural environment. This isn't merely an event; it's a stride towards establishing a space where history, water, art, and humanity intertwine. By breathing life back into the station, we're collectively resuscitating a piece of the city's collective memory."

In a sit-down with DK.RU, Yulia Sorokina mentioned:
"We're planning to establish a bio-platform, an artificial shallow pond populated with water purifying plants like white water-lily, narrow-leaved cat-tail, and black sedge, along with 9 additional flowering water plants. Beginning in July, as part of the festival preparations, we'll kick off the planting. Floating modules for boat mooring will also be added. Once upon a time, there were seven boat stations on the Plooshchadka, where locals loved to gather. It's a shame to have a lifeless city center waterfront. The original 1930s boat station design will be implemented here, thanks to the aid of the legal agency "Demidov and Partners" using old blueprints and images. The project's preliminary cost is 250 million rubles, but we're still accepting proposals and refining budgets. Urban Green is among the investors, and the city administration is on board. Improved territories tend to draw in more visitors than neglected ones."

This year, construction of the elevated stylobate with the first floor is expecting to be completed. The station will be restored to its historical appearance in two years, maintaining its initial design with a few modern modifications to preserve historical accuracy. The stylobate will house the first floor, making the station easily visible from all angles despite the modern road surface being almost four meters higher than the historical one.
Previously, DK.RU reported on the ongoing voting for parks to be improved under a special program in Yekaterinburg. Eight public spaces in various districts are in the running for federal funds, including the embankments of the Iset and Olkhovka rivers, where the new pier is situated.

The revitalization project, spearheaded by the AtmoFest festival, doesn't only focus on water sports and history; it also includes the establishment of a bio-platform and an artificial shallow pond, transforming the waterfront into a home-and-garden oasis that promotes outdoor-living and contributes to the city's cultural heritage. The festival, running from August 15 to 25, also offers morning yoga, pilates, and other practices on the pier's terrace, encouraging a lifestyle steeped in wellness and riverside relaxation.
