Your coastal town, Scharbeutz, just opened a brand-new, hip hangout by the sea - the Youth Beach Section 27, right across from the youth hostel. This vibrant spot was eagerly anticipated by the youth of the community, and it's more than just a beach - it's a hub where young visitors can connect, engage in activities, play sports, or unwind.
Mayor Bettina Schäfer echoed the community's excitement, stating, "This is a significant day for our neighborhood, especially our young residents." The idea emerged from collaboration, brainstorming, and collective effort. In the summer of 2022, Scharbeutz's young residents passionately voiced their need for a dedicated space at the beach. Bettina Schäfer proudly spoke about the progress, "Our young people expressed their desire for their own beach haven - a space to socialize, play, exercise, or simply relax. We heard them!" The Youth Beach project got off the ground with support from the Youth Welfare Office, engineering firm Knoll, and numerous other supporters.
The completed Youth Beach offers state-of-the-art fitness facilities like a slackline, hammocks, a stage, and a large sunshade. There's also a calisthenics area (bodyweight training) and a sports box filled with exercise equipment for an effective workout, such as dumbbells, weight balls, agility coordination ladders, jump ropes, and more. Commenting on the project, Nele Dettbarn from the municipality of Scharbeutz's Youth Welfare Office explained, "The slackline at the beach can be borrowed, and the sports box's keys are available at the youth hostel."
The visionary Youth Beach emerged through the financial backing of the State Office for Agriculture and Rural Development. Funds from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) under the German federal government's CAP strategy plan 2023-2027 secured a whopping 60% of the Youth Beach's total net costs, summing up to around 126,000 euros.
Mayor Schäfer is ecstatic about what the Youth Beach signifies for the community, stating, "We've created an inviting hangout that will resonate year-round, not just during the summer months, symbolizing the incredible value our youth bring to our town." At the opening ceremony, she thanked all those who put their hearts and minds into planning, funding, and actualizing the project.
Scharbeutz has long been celebrated for its seaside charm and recreational activities. This new Youth Beach adds a fun, youthful twist to the town's already bustling coastal scene!
