Project in Mülheim receives backing for research endeavors

A new research project has been initiated at the Kunstmuseum in Mülheim, Germany. The project, which is centred around graphic works added to the collection between 1945 and 1980, aims to uncover the origins of these specific works and trace their ownership history.

Unlike the NRW program, which offers a two-year training programme for participants and aims to provide new impulses for cultural work, the focus of the Kunstmuseum's research project does not seem to extend to prints, drawings, watercolors, or artist's books. Instead, the project will investigate these very mediums, delving into the history of the graphic works in the museum's collection.

The research project will endeavour to examine the provenance of the graphic works, a task that involves understanding the chain of ownership and the circumstances under which the works came to be in the museum's collection. This meticulous investigation is expected to enrich the museum's understanding of its collection and contribute to a more comprehensive narrative of art history.

While the NRW program does not appear to be a part of the research project at the Kunstmuseum, it could potentially offer support or collaboration to the museum's research efforts. The benefits of the NRW program, such as enriching museums and providing new impulses for cultural work, are not directly linked to the research project at the Kunstmuseum, but could potentially be indirectly related.

Participants in the NRW program will collaborate closely with universities and research institutions, furthering the programme's goal of offering new impulses for cultural work. The results of the projects undertaken by the NRW program participants are intended to enrich museums in North Rhine-Westphalia, including the Kunstmuseum in Mülheim.

As the research project at the Kunstmuseum in Mülheim unfolds, it promises to shed light on the provenance and history of the graphic works in the museum's collection, providing valuable insights into the art world of the mid-20th century. The museum looks forward to sharing these findings with the public in the coming months.
