In the heart of Berlin, between Oranienburger and Friedrichstraße streets, an exciting new development is taking shape. The project, known as 'Am Tacheles', is being developed by the architectural firm Herzog de Meuron and pwr development.

The winning design for the project will see ten new buildings erected on the site, including seven high-quality residential buildings on Johannisstraße and three office and commercial buildings on Friedrichstraße and Oranienburger Straße. The project will provide approximately 100,000 square meters of usable space, with 85,000 square meters of this space being newly built.

Herzog de Meuron, known for their innovative designs, has provided visualizations of the future site. While specific visualizations have not been disclosed, the firm's reputation promises a unique and captivating transformation of the area.

The site will house 275 owner-occupied apartments, providing a significant contribution to the city's housing market. Additionally, an additional 12,000 square meters are reserved for retail, ensuring a vibrant and bustling atmosphere.

Two heritage-listed buildings directly on Friedrichstraße will remain intact, preserving a piece of the site's rich history. The Tacheles building, a well-known department store ruin, will be integrated into the future development and revitalized for cultural use. The Swedish photography gallery Fotografiska will take over the Tacheles department store ruin, adding a cultural hub to the development.

The existing buildings will undergo modernization for an additional 15,000 square meters, ensuring a seamless blend of old and new. The depth of the site's history will be made experiential again and further developed, offering visitors a unique insight into Berlin's past.

Approximately 42,000 square meters of office space will be available, making 'Am Tacheles' a significant contributor to Berlin's commercial landscape. The project is one of the most exciting new construction projects in Berlin's city centre and is being planned by Grüntuch Ernst Architekten. Construction work began in 2015.
