National Library Event Scheduled for April 4th
More than 1,600 libraries across Germany will participate in events and activities this Friday, under the motto "Knowledge. Share. Discover." Participating libraries will host a variety of activities, such as readings, science slams, gaming nights, guided tours, workshops, and concerts.
In Bremen, 22 libraries will offer over 80 events, with Mayor and Senator of Culture Andreas Bovenschulte opening the first nationwide event at the city library on Friday evening. The Night of Libraries is an initiative of the German Library Association e.V. and its 16 state associations, aiming to highlight the diversity of libraries and encourage people of all ages to rediscover their libraries.
The Night of Libraries is not a new, nationwide German event; however, many local libraries across Germany often organize special evening or night events to promote reading and community engagement.
In Bremen, the city library alone will offer 50 activities, including guided tours, author readings, workshops, and special demonstrations. Other participating libraries include the state and university library, the Instituto Cervantes, the church library, the state institute for school, the institute for Low German language, the Klaus-Kuhnke Institute for Popular Music, the children's library in the quarter, and the French institute.
