Dedar's Collaboration with Anni Albers at Milan Design Week 2025

During Milan Design Week 2025, a remarkable exhibition took place on the 16th floor of Milan's iconic Torre Velasca. This exhibition, a collaboration between Dedar and the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation, showcased Dedar’s innovative textile research and exhibition, highlighting the legacy of Anni Albers in contemporary design contexts.

Torre Velasca, designed by BBPR, serves as a notable venue for this presentation. Completed in 1959, this modernist architecture legacy is one of the tallest buildings in Milan's central district. Its characteristic mushroom-like outline offers a 20th-century interpretation of Lombardy region's medieval castles, standing out as an architectural landmark in Milan.

Anni Albers, one of the past century's most seminal textile artists, is the inspiration behind this collaboration. The exploration of her work and way of thinking has required open-mindedness in creative terms. The fabrics launched by Dedar during Milan Design Week 2025 are based on Albers' works described as 'pictorial weavings'. These fabrics mix a variety of materials, including wool, cotton, jute, viscose, acrylic, and polyester.

The fabrics' dense, multi-dimensional weave blends old and new techniques in an artful way. They can be applied for various uses in interior spaces, including upholstery, curtains, panels, and textile elements. The reinterpretation of Albers' textures, colors, and forms originally intended for hand weaving has challenged Dedar's textile expertise.

Caterina and Raffaele Fabrizio, CEO and creative director of Dedar, believe that "art gives us courage" and that every new research endeavor expands their knowledge. The exhibition is free to visit for the duration of Milan's annual design festival (until 13 April). The exhibition is located in the heart of Lombardy city, Milan.

Torre Velasca, initially controversial for its unusual shape, has become a cherished symbol of Milan's architectural heritage. This collaboration between Dedar and the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation adds another layer to the building's rich history, bridging the gap between the past and the present, and showcasing the enduring influence of Anni Albers in the world of design.
