Marcus Aurelius, the Emperor, calls for a private meeting in Trier - Marc Aurel, the Emperor, extends an invitation for a personal meeting in Trier.
Gear up for an awe-inspiring cultural extravaganza! The upcoming Marc Aurel exhibition in Trier is primed to be the talk of the town this year, as announced by Rhineland-Palatinate's Interior Minister, Michael Ebling (SPD). This blockbuster event promises to raise the bar with exhibits from 17 countries and loaned treasures from esteemed institutions like the Louvre, the Vatican Museums, and the British Museum.
This extensive state exhibition will officially open its doors to visitors this coming Sunday, gracing the halls of the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier and the Stadtmuseum Simeonstift Trier. Kicking off the first-ever comprehensive show dedicated to the Roman emperor, general, and philosopher, Aurel (121-180), this exhibition is sure to be unforgettable.
Michael Ebling highlights the relevance of Aurel's questions even in today's rapidly changing world: "How can one excel in leadership? How can one maintain poise in the face of turmoil?" By posing such timeless inquiries, Aurel's wisdom still rings true, proving that his insights transcend the ages.
Already creating quite a buzz, Trier's mayor, Wolfram Leibe (SPD), confirmed the high demand for this special exhibit. Co-produced by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the city of Trier, this collaborative endeavor boasts a hefty budget of 5.3 million euros. Approximately 400 exhibits will be on display until November 23.
As an ancient Roman city, Trier has garnered a reputation for its thought-provoking antiquity exhibits. Previous focal points included Constantine the Great (2007) and Nero (2016). Come 2025, Trier shifts its attention towards the fall of the Roman Empire. Interestingly, the city of Trier shares a special bond with Aurel, as the Porta Nigra Roman city gate was built during his reign.

The Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of the environment, considering the impact of modern lifestyles on our home-and-garden as showcased by the treasured Roman artifacts and exhibits from esteemed institutions on display in Trier, during the upcoming Kaiser Marc Aurel exhibition. One can imagine Emperor Aurel, an exemplary leader even today, deliberating on these matters as he combated various environmental challenges during his own rule.
