Neustadt an der Waldnaab to Develop Second Green Lung
The mayor of Neustadt an der Waldnaab, Rupert Troppmann, has announced plans for a new green lung project in the city. This project, if realized, would provide a second green space for the residents, complementing the existing Waldnaab in the north.
Troppmann emphasized the importance of creating a city that feels like home for its citizens. He believes that the green lung, intended for seniors, kindergarten children, and residents, would contribute significantly to this goal.
The proposed green lung would be located near the industrial wastelands of the old glass factories, in the valley of the Floß. Troppmann envisions a meandering Floß flowing back into its old riverbed, creating a picturesque and serene environment.
The district office is commissioning concepts and expert opinions for the realization of the green belt project. Ongoing talks are taking place between the city, the district office, and the county regarding the project's details.
The total cost of the project is yet to be determined, as it depends on the future use of the renovated area. However, the city is willing to pay significantly to eliminate the inner-city industrial wasteland.
If the project is approved, a 250-meter walk through the forest would be required for students to access the green lung. This walk, Troppmann believes, is a reasonable request for the benefits the project would bring.
The results of the development concept will be presented to the city council in the fall. Troppmann hopes to implement the green belt project alongside another major urban development concept. He is also advocating for the use of existing industrial areas within a 10-kilometer radius and prioritizing local companies and craftsmen.
The development concept for this green belt has been commissioned to a company in Marktredwitz. However, the identity of the company remains undisclosed at this time.
It is possible that the green belt project could start or have already started in 2020. If successful, it would not only provide a new green space for the citizens of Neustadt but also help in making the city more inviting and livable.
