Local Kindergartens Harvest Success in 'Gardenland in Children's Hands' Project
Children from two local kindergartens, Kita Wirbelwind and Kita Tollenseknirpse, have successfully completed a gardening project. The 'Gardenland in children's hands' initiative, funded by the Kitaplanet foundation, saw the youngsters grow and cook their own vegetables and fruits.
The project began with the kindergartens receiving 500 euros in starting capital. They used this to build raised beds and plant a variety of vegetables and fruits, including tomatoes, pumpkins, potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, and zucchini. The children took great joy in the planting and gardening process.
Once the vegetables and fruits were ready for harvest, the children took over the kitchen. They cooked up a feast of vegetable soup, potato pancakes with quark, and flatbread with herb butter. The meals were enjoyed by all, with the children proudly serving the produce they had grown themselves.
Both Kita Wirbelwind and Kita Tollenseknirpse plan to continue their garden projects next year. They aim to have fresh produce from their beds to their tables once again. The 'Gardenland in children's hands' project has not only provided the children with fresh, homegrown food but also taught them valuable skills in gardening and cooking.
