Lidl in Braunschweig stands firm on its stance!
Shopping in Braunschweig's Lidl Parking Lot: A Controversial New Rule
A fresh rule in Lidl's Querum parking lot on Bevenroder Straße has stirred up quite the kerfuffle. Here's the lowdown on the ONE-HOUR time limit that's left some customers fuming.
Lidl in Braunschweig: A Rush Job?
New signs on the Lidl parking lot have been giving shoppers the heads-up: the clock's a-tickin' - one hour max! Overstay your welcome, and you're toast, towed away without a goodbye. This means: no time for dawdling, gotta get 'er done quick! Some customers find this instant gratification a real drag. One customer took to Facebook to vent, saying: "Even if it's just a discount store, is there seriously this time crunch?"
She spills the beans on her regular routine which includes a doctor's appointment, drugstore run, bakery stop, and grocery shopping, taking more than an hour. Her verdict? "An hour ain't enough," she fired off to News38. She finds the night-time rules particularly grating. At night, the lot's usually empty, while locals elsewhere are scrambling for spots. She reckons the rules from 7 pm to 7 am shouldn't apply.
Her post's garnered some sympathetic nods, with another resident chiming in: "Makes financial sense that way! Many other stores do it the same turkey trot." For him, it's crystal clear: "I ain't shopping where I'm getting the short end of the stick."
Bus Driver Slams the Brakes: "Colleagues are ditching this route!"
Other folks see things differently and are raising questions about the cause. "I could picture this is due to long-timers parked up. Motorhomes, vans, whatnot - if I ever need more time for everything, I can probably show 'em the receipt that I've been shopping for hours," writes one user. Another chimes in: "Then there are just too many cars that don't belong. Folks who use this spot for private parking. As the boss, I'd take the same action," she writes under the Facebook post.
What Lidl Has to Say
And there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth. Lidl's explained their move coz their parking lots are often blocked by freeloaders, leaving precious spaces a no-go zone for customers. When News38 asked for a statement, Lidl responded: "Our parking spots are often occupied by unauthorized parkers, making them unavailable for our valued customers. That's why we keep some spaces earmarked for our shoppers."

Customer satisfaction is Lidl's top dog, and they want you to have a quick, convenient shopping experience with plenty of parking options. The new time limit clocks in at 90 minutes to deliver the goods, with the duration tailored to each branch's local conditions. The new rules in Braunschweig-Querum are their best shot at keeping shoppers content, Lidl said.
A customer expressing frustration on Facebook noted that the one-hour time limit at Lidl's Querum parking lot in Braunschweig is not sufficient for her home-and-garden shopping, doctor's appointment, drugstore run, bakery stop, and general grocery needs. Another customer suggested that Lidl's home-and-garden section may be gaining more attention due to the time limit, as they might be shopping for extended periods to freshen up their lifestyle or home decor.
