Kickoff of the Corn Festival
The much-anticipated Probstei Corn Days are set to return in 2025, promising a vibrant celebration of the region's rich heritage and the arrival of the autumn harvest. This annual event, affectionately known as "Probsteier Immentag," typically spans several days and offers a delightful mix of parades, farmer's markets, live music, and family-friendly activities.
Taking place in the picturesque Probstei region, nestled in Schleswig-Holstein, the festivities will unfold in the scenic towns of Wendtorf and Laboe. Wendtorf, with its idyllic landscapes and warm-hearted small-town charm, and Laboe, famed for its maritime heritage and seaside ambiance, provide the perfect backdrop for this rural festival.
As the official program for 2025 is yet to be published, we can look to previous years for an idea of what to expect. Highlights include:
* Harvest Parade: Floats adorned with local produce, folk costumes, and music bands that wind through the streets of Wendtorf and Laboe. * Street Fairs: Stalls lining the streets offer local crafts, regional delicacies, and fresh produce. * Culinary Delights: Freshly grilled corn on the cob, potato dishes, traditional Schleswig-Holstein sweets, smoked fish, and locally brewed beer are some of the treats on offer. * Farmers’ Markets: Fresh fruits, vegetables, honey, and dairy products from regional farms. * Cultural & Thematic Events: Traditional farming methods, arts, and crafts demonstrations, live performances of folk and contemporary music, and children's activities such as pony rides, petting zoos, and corn mazes.
In addition to these regular features, 2025 is projected to host some special events. These may include themed events, guided tours, local competitions, and evening celebrations such as bonfires, lantern processions, and fireworks.
Visitors can enjoy free performances by various artists, including "Gwendoline" (The Doctors covers), "under pressure" (Rock/Pop covers), "Nashville City" (Country-Rock), and more, at the Naturerlebnisraum. The festivities will continue into the night.
Foreign product representatives will be present at the event, offering an opportunity to learn about and sample goods from around the world. A panel discussion with honorary guests is also scheduled during the event.
After the opening ceremony, which will take place in Wendtorf on July 12 at 1 pm, visitors can explore the Naturerlebnisraum from 1 pm. The opening concert will be performed by the "Eintracht Schönberg" choir, followed by a church service. At 6 pm, live music by "Arne" will commence after the church service.
