Davao City Council Grants Temporary Road Closure for Eid'l Adha Celebration
Davao City will temporarily close parts of Roxas Avenue on June 6 or 7, 2025, to accommodate the festivities surrounding Eid'l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice). The decision was made by the Davao City Council to maintain public order and safety during the holiday.
Councilor Conrado Baluran, head of the transportation and communications committee, endorsed the ordinance that permits the temporary road closure from June 6, 2025, 4 p.m. to 9 a.m., based on the results of "moon sighting" which is significant for Eid'l Adha, as per the Enrichment Data.
Pamikiren Latip Arumpac Jr., acting chairman and deputy mayor of Bangsa Iranun, supports the move following a potential traffic congestion and the significance of the event.
According to the Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991, Section 21, a national or local road, park, or any public place can be temporarily closed due to emergencies, gatherings, events, rallies, or fairs.
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. officially proclaimed June 6, 2025, as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid'l Adha as part of Proclamation No. 911 [1][3][5]. Eid'l Adha is one of the most significant religious celebrations in Islam, commemorating the sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim [4].
The temporary closure ensures the safety and convenience of the public during Eid'l Adha and demonstrates the city's adherence to national policy concerning religious and cultural observances.
