Hosted Town of Gifhorn: Feline Youngsters Engage in Skirmishes with Raccoons

In the picturesque town of Parsau, Gifhorn, a unique initiative has taken flight. The daycare centre, Fliegenpilz, has constructed 20 nesting boxes for blue tits, with a special design aimed at protecting the birds from predators.

The innovative feature of these nesting boxes lies in their entrance holes, which are surrounded by a metal plate. This metal reinforcement acts as a barrier, preventing badgers from enlarging the hole and gaining access to the delicate eggs or chicks within.

The blue tit nesting boxes, built with the support of the centre's educators, are part of an initiative by the Lower Saxony State Forests. A total of 100 building kits for these nesting boxes were provided by the "Gute Waldstiftung" around Franz Hüsing.

The remaining 17 nesting boxes will be hung in the Giebel forest area between Parsau and Ruhen by the end of the year. Three of these boxes will remain at the daycare centre, where the children learned how to attach them to trees from Forester Dennis Glanz.

Forester Glanz, who was responsible for picking up the finished nesting boxes, left three of them for the daycare centre to hang up on site. He also demonstrated the attachment process to the children in the centre's garden.

While no new information about the handover of the nesting boxes to the local forest ranger was provided, it is known that the daycare centre has handed over its self-built nesting boxes to the forest ranger.

This initiative not only provides a practical learning experience for the children but also contributes to the conservation of blue tit populations in the Giebel forest area. The nesting boxes, hung high in the trees, offer a safe haven for these vibrant birds, ensuring their continued presence in the region.

The unique design of the blue tit nesting boxes, including metal reinforcement around entrance holes, is aimed at shielding the birds from predators, enhancing the lifestyle and learning experience for the children at the daycare centre. The initiative, led by the Lower Saxony State Forests and supported by the Gute Waldstiftung, members of the community, and daycare educators, extends beyond the daycare centre to the fashion-and-beauty of the forest, fostering the conservation of blue tit populations in the region and complementing the home-and-garden aesthetics of the picturesque town of Parsau, Gifhorn.
