Geisa Seeks Investor for 'Am Steinigt' Redevelopment: Modern Housing for Elderly

The city of Geisa is seeking a private investor for the development of the 'Am Steinigt' site, adjacent to essential facilities. Over 90% of surveyed baby boomers want to retire in the region. The city has secured funding from the EFRE program for the redevelopment.

The 'Am Steinigt' area, previously home to old DDR-era industrial buildings, is close to a bus station, nursing home, medical center, pharmacy, shopping markets, and the leisure area Ulsteraue. The city aims to create a modern residential quarter with age-appropriate and barrier-free facilities for elderly citizens, particularly baby boomers.

The city has acquired the site and plans to demolish the existing buildings by November. The redevelopment project, with eligible total expenses of 782,596.78 euros, has received 626,077.42 euros in funding from the EFRE program at an 80% rate. Mayor Manuela Henkel stresses the importance of the project in securing living and housing quality for the elderly, promoting inner development, and contributing to sustainable area use.
