Gathering in Indore: Celebration at Bakshi Bagh Stepwell Honors Local Workers
In the heart of Madhya Pradesh, Indore's Bakshi Bagh stepwell restoration has been a significant milestone in the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan, a water conservation campaign launched by the state government under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This initiative, which focuses on the conservation and rejuvenation of rivers, water sources, wetlands, and traditional water bodies across the state, has seen remarkable progress in recent months.
On a sunny afternoon, the Indore Municipal Corporation organised a special event to honour the hardworking team behind the Bakshi Bagh stepwell restoration in Ward No 57. The event, part of the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan, aimed to express gratitude and encouragement for the workers involved in this challenging yet rewarding task.
Abhishek Bablu Sharma, the water works in-charge, served as the chief guest at the occasion. He commended the workers for their hard work, commitment, and discipline despite adverse conditions. Sharma emphasised that ground-level workers are the backbone of all development efforts. Executive engineer Vivesh Jain and additional municipal commissioner Rohit Sisonia were also in attendance, offering guidance and words of encouragement.
Rohit Sisonia, in his address, appealed for maintaining quality standards, meeting project deadlines, and remaining vigilant about the long-term conservation of water sources. He highlighted the importance of boosting the morale of these workers from time to time, as their dedication and perseverance are crucial for the success of the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan.
The restoration work at Bakshi Bagh stepwell has been ongoing for the past two months. Over 3,300 water sources in urban bodies like Indore have been rejuvenated, with stepwells receiving focused restoration to improve water retention and cultural heritage preservation. The campaign's success demonstrates innovative water management involving government schemes, community engagement, and pollution control measures, which collectively contribute to better water conservation in Madhya Pradesh.
The Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan, which ran from March 30 to June 30, 2025, with plans for continuation under new initiatives, has made substantial strides in enhancing groundwater recharge, reviving rivers and tributaries, improving urban water management, and ensuring broad-based community involvement. The revival of the Ghoda Pachhad (a Narmada tributary) and the renewal of year-round water flow possibilities are just a few examples of the campaign's success.
As the restoration work at Bakshi Bagh stepwell continues, it serves as a testament to the power of community effort in driving sustainable water conservation. The event was a heartening reminder that the hard work and dedication of these workers are not only essential for the success of the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan but also for the future of Indore's water resources and ecological health.
In light of the progress made in the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan, one could envision a lifestyle that cherishes and preserves water sources, integrating outdoor-living spaces with revitalized water bodies, thereby enriching the home-and-garden scene in Indore and throughout Madhya Pradesh.
The event held at Bakshi Bagh stepwell was more than just an appreciation of hard work; it symbolized a commitment to a future where water conservation, outdoor-living, and home-and-garden harmony intertwine, enriching both the city and its environment.
