Foundation advances bamboo utilization for ecological balance and cultural maintenance.
==============================================================
In a bid to advance a sustainable bamboo industry, the Bamboo Foundation, launched on August 2 in HCM City, has unveiled its flagship initiative, "Lũy Tre Làng" (Bamboo Village). This project aims to promote green and circular economic models that leverage bamboo as a renewable resource, contributing to environmental protection and community livelihood enhancement.
The Bamboo Foundation, with its mission built around preserving and promoting cultural, ecological, and social values of bamboo, has set its sights on creating eco-villages that integrate bamboo into architecture and everyday life. These villages will serve as models of sustainable living, encouraging low-carbon habits and responsible consumption at the community level.
Bamboo, known for its rapid growth and carbon absorption capabilities exceeding that of traditional hardwoods, plays a crucial role in preventing soil erosion, rehabilitating degraded land, and generating high-value products. The foundation sees bamboo as a symbol of sustainability, innovation, and community resilience.
"Lũy Tre Làng" seeks to build eco-communities centered around bamboo, fostering innovation, sustainability, and social cohesion. Through this initiative, the foundation aims to develop bamboo-centric ecological communities nationwide.
Key contributions of "Lũy Tre Làng" include developing community-based ecological models that revolve around bamboo cultivation and utilization, preserving local cultural heritage associated with bamboo, promoting circular economy and low-carbon practices in bamboo production and processing, enhancing rural livelihoods by creating green jobs and sustainable income sources, and addressing carbon emissions and environmental degradation through bamboo’s natural ecological benefits such as carbon sequestration and soil restoration.
The Bamboo Foundation also plans to mobilise resources both domestically and internationally to unlock the potential of Vietnam's bamboo sector. As part of this effort, the foundation will launch the Bamboo Forum as part of a series of events leading up to World Bamboo Day (September 18) in Vietnam. This forum will bring together researchers, entrepreneurs, government representatives, and communities to develop integrated strategies for the bamboo sector's sustainable growth.
Moreover, bamboo-based experiential tourism linked to environmental education will be developed, providing visitors with unique insights into the benefits of bamboo and its role in sustainable development.
In the words of Nguyễn Tuấn Khơ̆i, chairman of the Bamboo Foundation, bamboo is a practical, scalable solution for sustainable development, identity preservation, and climate resilience. By embracing this versatile and sustainable resource, Vietnam can take a significant step towards achieving its green development goals.
