Jana Ina and Giovanni: Unstoppable Power Couple for 20 Years

Collaborators who have been in union for a span of two decades - For two decades, we've maintained a close-knit camaraderie.

With 20 years of marriage, 2 teenagers, and packed schedules, Jana Ina (48) and Giovanni Zarrella (47) manage to keep their love burning strong. "We're each other's biggest cheerleaders. We don't compete, we support," Jana Ina laughed at a video shoot for Eon at Essen's Testing Lab.

Despite the harmonious exterior, family life isn't always a walk in the park. They've got school, shows, and broadcasts to juggle, yet they somehow make it work. "We've got a shared family calendar. Everything goes in there, even the kids' appointments. We set aside certain days just for us," the presenter revealed.

The love they have for their family is unwavering: "We strive to be there for our kids' special moments. We may sacrifice our sleep, but we'll catch up later."

The Anniversary Plans

Their 20th wedding anniversary in August is fast approaching, but the Zarrellas haven't made any concrete plans yet. "We live life day-by-day," Jana Ina chuckled. "But we'll make it happen." Their public life doesn't deter them from knowing where the boundaries lie between their personal and professional lives. "I share a fair bit of our daily life on Instagram, even make fun of life with teenagers. But the kids stay off-limits - and that's a rule we all respect."

Their charm extends even to everyday situations like shopping at the supermarket or bakery: "People treat us like we're close friends or neighbors. My husband loves chatting with the bakers, singing tunes, having a little chat. As long as people are nice, we are too - then everything's good."

Zarrella's Energy-Saving Duo

The Zarrellas' teamwork extends beyond parenting and scheduling; they're also efficient when it comes to saving energy. Giovanni keeps an eye on the smart tariffs so Jana can charge her electric car flexibly when it's cheapest. Jana makes sure to turn off lights and unplug devices. The kids chip in, too, reminding them to save energy: "Hey, it's daylight outside, turn off the light!"

Sustainability is a way of life for the Brazilian-born Jana Ina. Switching from a hybrid to a fully electric car was her first step; installing solar panels is next. "We saw solar panels on our neighbor's roof and thought they looked great!" she reported. "On our walks, I gathered information. I want to power my car at home using solar panels."

She's now even proud of understanding why her car charges at night instead of immediately: "I thought my charging box was broken at first. But now I know: I have a flexible tariff. My car charges at night when electricity demand is low - better for the environment and my wallet." Giovanni, too, is thrilled. "My husband is a typical Swabian: he's frugal," Jana Ina beamed.

They always ensure devices aren't left on unnecessarily at home. "You don't need to keep an iPhone charger plugged in all day. Plug it in when you need it," Jana Ina advised. "Little things can make a big difference in saving energy and helping the environment. By the end of the year, you'll have saved electricity and contributed to a cleaner planet. That's the goal: everyone should do their part."
