There's no competition, only support," gushes Jana Ina during a shoot for energy provider Eon at a tech lab in Essen.
Despite the harmonious vibes, family life is far from stress-free. Life's a whirlwind of shows, broadcasts, and school. So, how do they keep all the balls in the air? "We maintain a shared family calendar - everything goes in there, from the kids' appointments to our own dates," says the TV presenter. Family always comes first: "We make sure we're there for our children's important moments, even if it means catching up on sleep later."
Jana Ina and Giovanni: Celebrating 20 Years Together
August marks their 20th wedding anniversary, but no grand plans are set yet. Their spontaneous nature makes things exciting: "We're playing things by ear at the moment. But we always pull it off," laughs Jana Ina. Despite their public lives, the couple knows their limits: "I share snippets of our daily life on Instagram, like the chaos of raising teenagers. But we keep our kids off-limits - and that respects their privacy."
Their friendly demeanor is evident to fans, Jana Ina shares, during everyday encounters: "People talk to us like old friends or neighbors. My husband chats with everyone - bakers, cashiers... As long as it's pleasant, we engage."
The Zarrellas work well together beyond parenting and schedule coordination. They're also a power team when it comes to energy conservation: "He keeps tabs on smart tariffs to ensure I can charge my car flexibly when it's cheapest. I'm the one who turns off lights or unplugs devices," explains Jana Ina Zarrella during the video shoot about energy transformation. Eon Germany CEO Filip Thon was there too. The kids join in: "They often remind us to conserve energy - 'Hey, it's sunny outside, let's turn off the light.'"

For Jana Ina, born in Brazil, sustainability is a natural part of her family life. Their first step was switching to a fully electric car, with solar panels next on the list. "We saw our neighbor's solar panels and said, 'Cool!' I did some research and found out that I could power my car with solar energy!" she says with pride.
The fact that she now understands why her car charges at night instead of immediately makes her a self-proclaimed energy expert. "I thought my charger was broken at first. But now I know: I've got a flexible rate plan. My car charges at night when demand is lower, saving me money and the environment." Giovanni approves: "My husband is a money-saver - he's German, after all!"
"We're careful to make sure devices aren't constantly on at home. You don't need to leave your phone charger plugged in all day. You can just plug it in when you need it," advises Jana Ina. There are plenty of ways to save energy and help the planet, she concludes: "Every little effort adds up. It's about every individual doing their part."
