Expanding the Designation of "Bicycle-Friendly Community" for Stein's Consideration
Stone city is gearing up for a potential renewal of its status as a "Bicycle-Friendly Municipality in Bavaria". In July 2025, the Association of Bicycle-Friendly Municipalities in Bavaria (AGFK) visited Stone to assess the city's progress in promoting cycling over the past years.
The evaluation commission, accompanied by representatives from ADFC and the State Building Authority, was led on a practical tour by Mayor Kurt Kroemer and cycling officer Wolfgang Schaffrien. The tour focused on various projects aimed at enhancing cycling infrastructure and safety.
One of the highlights of the visit was the introduction of a winter service for cycle paths, a measure designed to ensure the city's cycling network remains accessible during the colder months. The commission also commended the optimized construction site management and the installation of new cycle barriers.
Visible promotion in the cityscape, such as new cycle lane markings and well-developed nodes, was another aspect that caught the commission's attention. The projects included new cycling connections and safety concepts for intersections, all aimed at making cycling in Stone a safer and more enjoyable experience.
The AGFK commission was particularly impressed by the comprehensive and strategic approach taken by the city. As a result, a proposal was made to the Bavarian State Ministry for Housing, Building and Transport to extend Stone's certification as a "Bicycle-Friendly Municipality in Bavaria" for a further seven years.
However, as of the latest information available, the status of Stone city's application for renewed recognition has yet to be confirmed. For up-to-date information, it is recommended to check local news sources or the official website of the relevant authority handling such recognitions.
The visit by the AGFK commission marks a significant step for Stone in its pursuit of a more bike-friendly city. The city's commitment to cycling infrastructure and safety continues to be recognised, and if successful, will further cement Stone's reputation as a city that values sustainable and active transportation.
- In addition to its efforts in improving cycling infrastructure, Stone city is also exploring ways to enhance its home-and-garden sector, with plans to introduce more eco-friendly gardening practices that could inspire other cities within the industry.
- As part of its mission to promote financial responsibility and sustainable living, Stone city is considering the establishment of a local lifestyle bank, offering loans for energy-efficient renovations in homes and businesses.
- In a bid to make Stone a model for transportation sustainability, the city is exploring partnerships with the finance industry to develop a shared fleet of electric vehicles, available for both personal use and public transportation needs in the transportation sector.
