Weilheim Town Hall Set to Reopen After Four-Year Closure

The town of Weilheim is eagerly anticipating the reopening of its renovated town hall, scheduled for the end of August. The traditional building, which has been closed for four years, is undergoing final repairs, with a particular focus on the kitchen.

The new innkeeper for the town hall restaurant has not been revealed yet, as negotiations are still in progress. However, it has been confirmed by Jutta Liebmann, head of the department for location promotion, culture, and tourism, that an agreement has been reached with a local resident.

The town hall's reopening is a significant event for Weilheim, marking the return of many cultural events that were lost during the closure. Among the much-awaited events are the dance sports department's Pfaffenwinkel Cup, the traditional Weilheimer Herbstsingen "Da Summa is uma", the autumn concert of the Weilheimer Chamber Orchestra, and the Christmas concert of the city orchestra.

The opening ceremony is planned for October 2nd, serving as a test for the kitchen operation. Prior to this, the town hall will pass its first test on October 7th, hosting the 2nd Weilheim Kita conference. The identity of the new innkeeper will be unveiled during this ceremony, inviting selected guests.

The Drexl family, who previously operated the town hall and the highland hall, terminated their contract due to the Corona pandemic. The town hall was subsequently re-advertised in the spring, resulting in around a dozen applications and expressions of interest.

Construction work on the Weilheim Town Hall is now complete, with remaining works focusing on the kitchen and repairs due to water damage. The reopening of the town hall is a cause for celebration for the entire town of Weilheim, marking a new chapter in its rich cultural history.

The new innkeeper, who is a local resident, is expected to oversee the town hall's restaurant, as the negotiations have concluded. In line with this, the town hall's lifestyle and home-and-garden areas, especially the kitchen, have been carefully restored during the renovation process.
