Event showcases Communication Design student creations in image exhibition
In a unique display of creativity and visual storytelling, the Communication Design students at a renowned institution recently showcased their works at the 'Image Making for Storytelling' exhibition. The students, who worked across various media, including video, art, and multimedia presentations, interpreted their works in a manner that was both innovative and thought-provoking.
The project, focused on helping students communicate effectively through visual means, involved a week-long exploration of printmaking fundamentals. Students spent this time studying and practising carving and printing using sunboard, lino sheet, and MDF board. The techniques applied during printmaking not only clarified the negative and positive space of an image but also aimed to empower students to relook at material and its applications.
The works on display were a testament to the students' ability to use various elements of an image to tell a story. Paintings were recreated using unconventional materials like cloth, rope, paper, papier mâché, cardboard, and cellophane sheets. The manipulation of negative and positive space was used to innovate the visual experience, with students having to carve their drawings as a mirror image.
The exhibition also featured interpretations of works by master artists, using different mediums. This aspect of the project aimed to build students' skills in craft and composition, as well as equip them with the ability to create visual narratives that are emotionally engaging and complex.
The 'Image Making for Storytelling' project also incorporated the ideas of self, signs, and symbols. It was designed to help students use elements of an image, such as space, form, and structure, to communicate emotion effectively. The project represents more complex narratives through progressive creative assignments, with the intention of representing these narratives in a visually engaging manner.
In conclusion, the 'Image Making for Storytelling' exhibition is a testament to the students' abilities in visual storytelling. It showcases their skills in using various elements of an image to tell a story, their understanding of print-making techniques, and their ability to innovate and push the boundaries of traditional art forms. The exhibition serves as a platform for these students to showcase their creativity and talent, and promises to be an inspiring event for all who attend.
