Event: Parking Day 2025

On a sunny day in September, Grabbestraße in Detmold will undergo a remarkable transformation. The event, known as "PARKing Day," is not a recurring one, but a unique opportunity for the city to showcase alternative uses of public spaces and promote sustainable mobility.

Young visitors will have a blast with the Bobbycar course and the game offerings from the F.I.T. mobile, while employees from the traffic planning department of the city portal will gather ideas for future urban planning on site.

The idea for this event was initiated locally, but the global concept of PARKing Day was first introduced by Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, back in 2005.

From 1 pm to 6 pm on September 18, selected parking spaces in Grabbestraße will be temporarily transformed into lively spaces, sending a clear signal for more quality of life in the city. This event aims to creatively question the use of public spaces and present alternatives to the car as the dominant mode of transport.

During the event, discussions about sustainable mobility and future-oriented urban planning are expressly desired. The municipal civil engineering planning team will also inform attendees about flood protection measures.

The adjacent café Halbstark will contribute to the festive atmosphere by providing drinks and music throughout the day. This event demonstrates how urban space can be valuable for community, sustainability, and creative city planning.

So, mark your calendars for September 18, and join us in Grabbestraße for a day of fun, learning, and inspiration. Let's celebrate and reimagine our public spaces together!
