The rangers in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön take care of various tasks such as nature conservation, education, landscape care, monitoring, visitor guidance, and digital ranger duties. Topics covered by the rangers include insect diversity and the protection of core zones.
The event offers an opportunity for participants to experience the ranger profession up close. It's important to note that over 100 rangers worldwide lose their lives annually, often due to violence, poaching, or inadequate equipment. This World Ranger Day draws attention to the sometimes dangerous working conditions of rangers.
Currently, 13 rangers are in action in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön - seven in Hesse and six in Bavaria. Exciting guided tours on various themes are offered at 2 o'clock. No registration is required for the guided tours.
