Enchanting lavender fields of Long Island are now in full bloom, offering a captivating spectacle of purple hues. Don't let this ethereal dreamscape pass you by.

Let's dive into the enchanting world of Lavender by the Bay, a magical lavender farm that's blooming like a dream on the East End of Long Island!

The Enchanting Origin of Lavender by the Bay

This family-run farm has been nurturing top-notch lavender for over two decades. The tale begins with a man named Serge, who spent his sultry French summers tending to a herd of cows. In his adulthood, he shifted to Israel, continuing to work the soil before meeting his wife, Susan. After relocating to her home town in New York in 1979, they found their peaceful haven.

In the late 1980s, the couple snagged a cozy weekend retreat property in Southold, NY, and yearning to replicate the beauty of southern France, Serge fashioned a lavender-filled landscape in his backyard. Susan started making sachets, lavender wands, and rustic bouquets from the excess blooms, offering them for sale at the end of their driveway. This summertime tradition continued for years.

The demand for lavender, coupled with the popularity of the honey from Serge's parallel hobby, beekeeping, soared so much that they started hunting for land to expand. Eventually, they found the perfect spot in East Marion, NY, and established Lavender by the Bay, the farm we visit today!

Lavender by the Bay: A Haven of Serenity Today

Now, Lavender by the Bay has two charming locales - one in East Marion and another in Calverton - and grows both English and French lavender varieties.

The sprawling Calverton farm houses over 80,000 lavender plants, usually in full bloom from mid-June to July, and then rebloom on a smaller scale in late summer/early fall. However, the lavender fields bloom for a brief period, so grab the chance to enjoy your visit as soon as possible once they start!

Apart from reveling in the stunning, purple buttons, you can indulge in various other experiences too. Freshly cut lavender bundles can be bought to perfume your home, as well as other items like candles, teas, plants, body products, and even honey from their own beehives.

The Lavender Blooms Await!

As of June 7, 2025, the Calverton farm's lavender has begun to bloom! The blooming is still in its early stages, but the fields are already filling up with that gentle purple hue and mouthwatering scent that we adore.

The farm's Instagram announced: "We're pacing the fields in East Marion - they're just craving a bit more sun and time - but Calverton is ready and waiting for you!"
