Dürr Revolutionizes Battery Production, Seeks Partners for Gigawatt-Scale Projects
Dürr, a leading machinery and plant engineering company, has made significant strides in lithium-ion battery production. The company has reduced production space and energy consumption by half and increased accuracy and speed in its news processes. Dürr and GROB have joined forces to build a new concept factory targeting the electric vehicle (EV) segment.
Dürr's innovations include the dry coating process, which eliminates the need for drying and solvent recovery, reducing waste and enhancing efficiency. The company has achieved 0.5 micrometer accuracy in calendering and doubled web speed using laser dryers in the classic wet coating news. Dürr and GROB's new concept factory will utilize digital mapping and simulation software for production planning and quality analysis. GROB's new generation Z-folder for cell assembly will also be integrated, offering high system availability and increased throughput with minimal space needs. A proof-of-concept plant for dry coating is already operating in southern France, demonstrating consistent quality and scalability.
