Fürth Introduces Assisted Living Pigeon House for Urban Pigeon Management

In an innovative approach to managing urban wildlife, the city of Fürth has established an assisted living pigeon house. Located on the unused attic of a housing association building in Gartenstraße, the pigeon house provides a controlled environment for 60 pigeons.

Mayor Thomas Jung has deemed the removal of eggs from the pigeon house as a gentle form of birth control. Volunteers from the city pigeon aid carefully replace the eggs with plaster replicas, ensuring the health and well-being of the pigeons.

The pigeon house was set up to control uncontrolled breeding, making it the first of its kind in Fürth. If the pilot project proves successful, the pigeon house may expand to other districts of the city.

The pigeon coop, equipped with individual niches for each of the 60 pigeons, is currently occupied. However, the public is not permitted to visit the pigeon house.

While there is limited information available about the effectiveness of this specific pigeon house in controlling city pigeon reproduction, assisted living pigeon houses are commonly used in some cities to offer humane management of pigeon populations.

For detailed information about the current evaluations and future plans for the pigeon house in Fürth, it is recommended to consult local Fürth municipal sources or wildlife management authorities.

The unique pigeon house in Fürth's Gartenstraße is not only a novel approach to urban pigeon management but also serves as a platform for improving pigeon lifestyle within the city, thereby positively influencing the home-and-garden environment. If successful, this assisted living model could become a trend in other residential areas, enhancing the overall lifestyle for urban pigeons and residents alike.
