In the heart of Dortmund's Wickede district, a beloved culinary institution is preparing to bid adieu. The Station Grill, a staple of German street food culture since the mid-20th century, will close its doors on August 31, marking the end of an era for its devoted patrons.

Owners Ilias and Alexia Balaura, who have been serving up traditional dishes for 43 years, have decided to retire. With hearts full of gratitude and love, they expressed their thanks to their customers for their support throughout the years.

Station Grill is renowned for its comforting German classics, such as potato and egg pancakes, and its unique offerings, like cheese dumplings filled with Bergkäse cheese, herbs, and bacon. Galloway beef burgers, various types of sausages with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes, and the iconic doner kebab, a nod to Berlin's street food culture, are among the popular dishes that have made this snack bar a cherished part of fast food history.

Although details about the bar's closure and new ownership are scarce at present, it is known that a successor has been found, ensuring that the Station Grill will continue to serve Greek food. The new name for the establishment is "Baris-Grill", but further information about the new owner is not yet available.

The Station Grill has been a beacon of culinary tradition in Dortmund, blending rustic, family-style recipes into the vibrant street food culture of the city. Its closure is a bittersweet moment for its loyal customers, who have enjoyed the warm atmosphere and delicious food for decades.

As Ilias and Alexia prepare to spend time with their children and grandchildren, their legacy lives on in the hearts of those they have fed and the memories they have created. The Station Grill may close its doors, but its impact on German street food culture will undoubtedly endure.
