City of Solingen seeks trees for upcoming planting period
In the city of Solingen, a new initiative named "Biodiversity in the Garden" has been introduced, aiming to promote diverse plant life in local gardens. This campaign is separate from the ongoing "People Need Trees - Trees Need People" programme, now in its fourth round.
The "Biodiversity in the Garden" campaign invites Klingenstadt residents to take part in creating gardens that are rich in species and varieties, particularly those that thrive under changing climate conditions and are insect-friendly. Interested parties can reach out to the city at [email protected] to join the campaign.
For participants, the city offers expert advice on selecting tree species that best suit personal preferences and property conditions. Participants can also benefit from an expert gardener who will create a planting plan for a ten-square-meter area at no cost.
Delivery and planting of the plants will take place from winter to the following spring. The plants provided are about six to eight years old and already at least three meters high. Participants can either plant the beds themselves or hire a service provider to implement the planting plan.
The city provides around 150 tall-growing deciduous trees annually for the "Biodiversity in the Garden" action. So far, 40 households have participated in the campaign. It's important to note that sponsors are responsible for watering, maintaining, and preserving their new tree.
For those who wish to sponsor trees for their private gardens, Solingen also offers a separate programme. Interested Solingen residents can apply for tree sponsorship. The application deadline for the upcoming planting season is the end of August.
For precise and current details about the Solingen tree sponsorship program, such as the exact species available, how to apply, deadlines, and eligibility, it's recommended to visit the official Solingen city website or contact their environmental or urban forestry department directly.
