City of Dreieich awarded for outstanding urban green spaces with a Silver label recognition.
City of Dreieich Receives Silver Label "CityGreen Nature-friendly" Award
On September 18th, 2022, the city of Dreieich was awarded the Silver Label "CityGreen Nature-friendly" at the Darmstadt hunting hotel Kranichstein. The accolade was bestowed as part of the "Communities for Biological Diversity" alliance.
Mayor Martin Burlon expressed his satisfaction with the result, stating that it is an accolade for the good work done in recent years. First Deputy Mayor Holger Dechert echoed this sentiment, stating that the positive assessment shows they are on the right track in terms of green care and biodiversity in Dreieich.
The city achieved an impressive score of 920, an increase from the 844 points in 2020. This growth is a testament to the numerous measures implemented between 2020 and 2023 to promote biodiversity.
These measures include converting lawn areas into meadows, intensifying de-sealing measures, and introducing climate-adapted tree species. Petra Klink, board member of DLB AoR, emphasized the wealth of implemented biodiversity-promoting measures in all areas of green planning and maintenance towards more species diversity.
The local working group, consisting of city representatives, DLB AoR, city parliament factions, and nature conservation associations, contributed to the implementation of these projects. The feedback from citizens is good, making the project leaders happy.
Project leaders Lisa-Marie Schmandt and Sylvio Jäckel are pleased with the positive feedback and aim to continue the successful initiatives. The future goal of project leader Thomas Becker, working with Schmandt in Dreieich, is to enhance sustainable urban development in the region.
The aim for the city of Dreieich is to reach the gold level. With their commitment to designing and maintaining green spaces in harmony with nature, it seems they are well on their way.
