City Boosts Cycling Infrastructure: New Routes, More Space, Enhanced Safety

The city has announced significant changes to improve cycling infrastructure and traffic flow in the Löberstraße, Lonystraße, and Goethestraße areas. These updates aim to create more space for cyclists and enhance safety for all road users.

Starting in 2025, sections of Löberstraße will be opened for bicycle traffic in the opposite direction, providing a direct route for cyclists between the city park, the station, and the Lahn. This move strengthens an important bicycle axis, connecting to the frequently used bicycle route on Goethestraße.

To accommodate these changes, resident parking spaces previously located in Löberstraße will be relocated to Lonystraße, between Goethestraße and Bleichstraße. This shift not only creates more space for cyclists but also encourages car-dependent individuals to use bicycles due to the shorter distances.

To ensure sufficient space for motor vehicle traffic, adequate passing spaces, including longer ones, will be created. Driveway accesses will also serve as passing spaces, and right-of-way rules will apply. Visibility between cyclists turning into Goethestraße and waiting traffic will be improved to enhance safety.

Parking spaces on Goethestraße will be moved to improve visibility and allow cycling in the opposite direction. Cyclists coming from Berliner Platz can now pass through without turning onto Bismarckstraße and then into Lonystraße, making their journey more convenient.

These changes, along with previous measures such as installing a median for crossing Berliner Platz and designating a bicycle street in Roonstraße, aim to strengthen the east-west bicycle axis. The city continues to invest in cycling infrastructure to promote a greener and safer urban environment.
