Charity Club Night Led by Renate: Fights for the Homeless Population in Berlin Through Fundraising Events

In the heart of Berlin, a unique collaboration is making waves in the city's nightlife scene. Rise Nights, a fundraising initiative by the Rise Foundation, is leveraging the power of music and community to raise awareness and funds for homeless causes.

Founded at the end of 2022, Rise Nights was the brainchild of Genevieve Ataro and Genevieve Brady. Since then, they've been hosting small events approximately seven times a year, with the first event taking place at Repeat Bar in Kreuzberg with around 30 friends.

The lineup for their upcoming event on August 8, in collaboration with Renate - one of Berlin's most popular clubs - includes PJ Bridger, Appleblim, Limo D, Maximum Tilt, and Marie Modori. These events prioritise up-and-coming DJ talents, creating a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere.

The Rise Foundation is a Berlin-based non-profit organisation that provides aid to homeless communities. Through Rise Nights, they use the donated funds to buy and distribute supplies like food, sleeping bags, socks, and hygiene items to homeless individuals in Berlin. Volunteers at these events engage with the homeless population in Kreuzberg and Neukolln, providing emotional support and giving them a voice.

Rise Nights operates on a principle of mutual support. They work exclusively with musicians and venues who participate free of charge, ensuring that every penny raised goes directly to the cause. In 2023, they managed to raise €5,200. The team behind Rise Nights aims to transition to hosting two large events per year, such as the upcoming collaboration with Renate.

PJ Bridger, one of the artists performing at the upcoming event, recently expressed frustration with the lack of attention and misunderstanding towards those with living difficulties. This sentiment underscores the importance of initiatives like Rise Nights, which not only raise funds but also foster community engagement around homelessness.

While there is no specific, up-to-date data or studies on the Berlin context or the Rise Foundation’s measurable impact, it is clear that Rise Nights contributes by generating donations, raising public awareness, and creating social spaces that potentially connect marginalised populations with resources and support networks.

For those interested in supporting or volunteering with Rise Nights, follow @rise_nights and @risefoundationberlin on Instagram or visit the Rise Foundation website for updates on events and volunteering opportunities. Together, we can make a difference in our community.

Despite the success of Rise Nights in revitalizing Berlin's nightlife and addressing homeless issues, the initiative also aims to expand its reach beyond the club scene. For instance, the team plans to reinvest resources into a home-and-garden project, providing shelter and a sense of community for individuals in need, supplementing their current lifestyle-focused efforts. Furthermore, as the Rise Foundation extends its influence, it seeks to educate the public on home-and-garden solutions that can alleviate homelessness, broadening the impact of its work.
