Get ready, Bavarian Forest! In just over a week, the State Garden Show will come alive with every shade of green and a crimson spectacle that will leave you spellbound. The event, set to open its gates on May 22 and run until October 5, is gearing up to be a grand showcase for Bavaria and its lush landscapes, promised Minister Thorsten Glauber (Free Voters). Boasting a budget of 11.3 million euros, the 38th State Garden Show in Furth im Wald aims to offer much more than just flora and fauna - it promises a magical experience for all!

Growing greener, and growing grand

With Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder (CSU) presiding over the opening ceremony as per municipal statements, the State Garden Show will span a whopping 137 days. The fairgrounds, decked with an impressive 2,600 shrubs, 240 trees, and nearly 150,000 perennials and bulbs, will not only share the latest in horticulture and landscape design but also delve into pressing matters like climate change and drought. Some 3,000 events are in the works, ensuring there's always a new spell to cast.

A dragon's den

Woven intricately through the fabrics of the State Garden Show is the tale of the historic play "Further Drachenstich". You'll find yourself strolling through garden exhibits laid out in dragon scale form, witnessing a dragon's cave, and marveling at the sight of a 14-meter-long high-tech robot dragon on guided tours. The 14-meter-long high-tech robot dragon, a star of the show, is said to be the city's homage to this legendary play that boasts of a tradition that dates back over 500 years!

A cultural epicenter

For the folks of Furth im Wald, the State Garden Show serves as a golden opportunity to revamp their city, as declared by Mayor Sandro Bauer. Among the urban planning projects, the replacement of the old festival hall with a new park arena takes center stage. Initially, Bauer was skeptical about Furth im Wald's capability to handle a spectacle of this magnitude, but today, he stands tall and proud as the city's host.

The State Garden Show represents a unique fusion of nature and Bavarian cultural heritage, reflected in its familial bond with the Czech Republic. Information boards will be available in both German and Czech, allowing visitors from both nations to partake in this magical experience. Between the breath-taking gardens, local artworks, craftsmanship, and mouthwatering regional fare, the State Garden Show is sure to weave its own spell on the Bavarian Forest.
