New Wild Boars Amy Schweinhouse and Keiler Minogue Settle into Tegeler See
In a charming twist of pop culture and wildlife, two wild boars named Amy Schweinhouse and Keiler Minogue have made their home at the Tegeler See wildlife enclosure. The names are a playful nod to famous singers, with Amy Schweinhouse being a pun on the late soul singer Amy Winehouse, and Keiler Minogue referencing pop singer Kylie Minogue.
The arrival of these new residents occurred eleven weeks after the enclosure had been empty. Amy, a one-year-old sow, and Keiler, a two-year-old boar, have been living in the Revierförsterei Tegelsee since April. Their arrival brought a pleasant surprise when Amy gave birth to a piglet on June 26, much to the delight of the Försterei team.
Meanwhile, at the Revierförsterei Spandau, a newborn fallow deer was born on June 23, named Max. The gender of this new deer is not specified, just like the gender of the piglet born at Tegeler See, named Ziros after the storm on the night it was born. The gender of Max, the fallow deer, remains unknown as well.
Interestingly, Max was initially lost in the chaos of a storm at the time of his birth. He is currently being raised by a forester. The gender of Ziros, the piglet, is still unknown.
It's worth noting that the wild boar family at Tegeler See and the offspring at Revierförsterei Spandau are separate entities. The enclosure at Revierförsterei Spandau was previously affected by a wild and cattle disease before the arrival of the wild boars at Tegeler See. The conditions at the fallow deer enclosure were deemed safe again after a sufficient waiting period.
The creative naming of the wild boars was a collaborative effort. Suggestions for the names were submitted on Instagram, with the forest rangers choosing the names Amy Schweinhouse and Keiler Minogue as they found them humorous and fitting, linking the animal and the pop culture references cleverly.
Keiler, despite being a male, was named after Kylie Minogue, a female pop singer. This naming choice adds to the playful and light-hearted nature of the names.
The new wild boars and the fallow deer are sure to bring excitement and intrigue to their new homes, providing a unique blend of pop culture and wildlife for visitors to enjoy.
