Art ventures on the PURPLE PATH happening in May
Chemnitz's European Capital of Culture designation for 2025 sees the emergence of the Purple Path, an artistic and sculptural trail showcasing works from renowned artists across Europe, Germany, and Saxony. The trail, extending to Hohenstein-Ernstthal and other partner municipalities, illuminates the region's history, culture, and commitment to peaceful coexistence, sustainability, and inclusivity.
Beginning May 3rd, the Biohof Bochmann in Neukirchen-Adorf plays host to an overnight project named "Sleep Beautifully!". Students from the Faculty of Applied Arts Schneeberg have designed portable sleeping cells, ornamented "Very Tiny Houses" that will be placed on the grounds. Concurrently, the new courtyard café "Express Yourself" officially opens.
Guided bus tours along the sculpture trail, the Purple Path, will be offered during Chemnitz Museum Night on May 10th. Two distinct routes will lead through multiple locations in the region, with participation possible using a Museum Night ticket. Online reservations are currently open.
On May 15th, the light-sound installation "Weather Light" by Via Lewandowsky will be inaugurated in Burgstädt, with a sound installation and accompanying exhibition to follow. Part of the installation has been visible in the Taurasteinturm since April.
In Hohndorf, on May 24th, Christina Doll's sculpture pair "Angel and Miner" will be presented. This contemporary interpretation of an Erzgebirge motif highlights the lives of children with disabilities and Wismut-era miners with a sensitive touch.
On May 25th, Frank Maibier's sculpture "Ornaments" will be unveiled in Lichtenau. Crafted from steel, the work brings together fence motifs from the region, prompting thought on the role everyday aesthetics play in cultural memory.
