In the heart of Germany, the city of Wiesbaden is making waves with a new initiative aimed at providing a sporting home for a group of refugee Ukrainian elite swimmers, as well as teaching water safety and swimming skills to other refugee children.

The project, which is funded by the Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V., focuses on education, integration, and equal opportunities within its social engagement framework. Qualified trainers from the Wiesbaden Swimming Club will conduct the swimming sessions, ensuring a professional and enjoyable learning experience for all participants.

Susanne Koellmann, a member of the board, and Christa Frosch, PR representative of Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V., highlighted the importance of the project, stating that learning to swim means not only safety but also participation. They aim to enable children, regardless of their origin or financial situation, to participate in the project.

Christoph Eichler, President of Wiesbaden Swimming Club 1911 e.V., expressed the importance of the initiative from a sporting perspective, emphasizing the club's commitment to the integration of refugees through sport. He also underlined the club's dedication to fostering a sense of joy and self-confidence among the participants.

For Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V., social engagement is not a duty, but a conviction. Dr. Becher, representing the Magistrate and the City of Wiesbaden, thanked all those involved for their extraordinary commitment to the swimming project.

The project will commence with the first swimming courses for 10 children aged 10 to 15 starting on Monday, August 25, at the ESWE leisure pool. A further round of swimming courses for children aged 5 to 8 will start from Saturday, August 30, at the Kleinfeldchen.

Citizens with any questions regarding the project can contact the relevant department or office for more information. The symbolic handover of the swimming project was conducted by Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V. and Wiesbaden Swimming Club 1911 e.V. to Dr. Becher, representing the Magistrate and the City of Wiesbaden.

This press release is published by the Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden. The project marks an important step towards fostering inclusion and promoting physical health among refugee children in Wiesbaden.

  1. The integration project in Wiesbaden involves not only the teaching of swimming skills to refugee children, but also focuses on home-and-garden lifestyle as participants will attend sessions at ESWE leisure pool and Kleinfeldchen.
  2. Beyond the sports aspect, the initiative by Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V. encourages education-and-self-development, as learning to swim is seen as a means to facilitate better participation in outdoor-living activities, fostering joy and self-confidence in children.
  3. Alongside the swimming project, Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V. remains committed to ongoing education and equal opportunities beyond the swimming pool, aiming to help refugee children integrate and thrive within the lifestyle of Wiesbaden.
