Anglican Church Creates Safe Space for Melbourne's Chinese Youth

The Holy Name Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia, has established a Safe Space for youth in the Chinese community, funded by the Anglican Mothers Union Australia and the Melbourne Anglican Foundation. This initiative aims to provide a free, supportive environment where young people can share their stories, build social connections, and receive mentoring.

Rev. Grace Wang and Ping Luo, a parishioner and counselor, launched the Safe Space after noticing young people feeling disconnected from their families and education. Initially, many youth struggled with anxiety and isolation, including some who were school refusers or faced learning difficulties exacerbated by language barriers. However, with time and support, these young people have shown significant improvement in their engagement and confidence.

The Safe Space offers a haven where youth can express themselves, learn from one another, and develop essential life skills. The Anglican Mothers Union Australia and the Melbourne Anglican Foundation have generously provided financial backing, ensuring this vital service remains accessible at no cost to the participants.

The Safe Space at Holy Name Anglican Church has proven successful in fostering a supportive community for young people in Melbourne's Chinese community. With continued funding and support, this initiative will continue to empower youth, helping them overcome challenges and build brighter futures.
