Sarah Jessica Parker Advocates for Independent Child-Rearing
American Celebrity Raises Offspring with Emphasis on Self-Reliance - American Celebrity Raises Offspring to Embrace Autonomy
Veteran actress Sarah Jessica Parker (60) recently opened up about her parenting philosophy during an extensive interview with "The E! News Sitdown with Bruce Bozzi."
In the discourse, the "Sex and the City" luminary shed light on her methods for preparing her three offspring for adult life. Aiming for her children to be self-reliant and self-sufficient, Parker believes that traditional educational structures may not cater to everyone's individual needs.
"I firmly believe that my children should be schooled in a manner that resonates with them on a personal level," Parker articulated. "I do not advocate for a one-size-fits-all approach to education or adulthood preparation; a college degree, for instance, certainly does not need to be the ultimate objective by the age of 22."
Focus on Emotional and Financial Resilience
Delving deeper into her convictions, the actress underscored the importance of cultivating emotional and financial resilience among her children.
"It's essential that they explore and pursue challenging and fulfilling activities," Parker emphasized. "I want them to be able to stand on their own two feet; emotionally, financially, and to be steadfast – not only for themselves but also for others."
A testament to her beliefs is her eldest son, James Wilkie (22), who has embarked on his acting career with the support of his parents. In February, he stars alongside his father, Matthew Broderick (63), in an episode of the CBS series "Elsbeth."
A Special On-screen Father-Son Moment
Broderick, who has been married to Parker since 1997, recounted working with their son as an unforgettable experience.
"It was fantastic. We had two days together. It was simply delightful, relaxing at the catering tables while indulging in snacks," Broderick reminisced. "James was apprehensive at first, but he soon overcame his nerves. We had several enjoyable days."
Parker underscores the idea that her children should have the opportunity to make their own life decisions. "I am eager to observe the paths they will choose, but I hope they feel, to some extent, that they possess choices," she expressed.
Twins as a "Control Study"
In addition to James Wilkie, Parker and Broderick also share 15-year-old twin daughters, Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell. During an earlier appearance on "Jenna and Friends" on April 21, Parker humorously highlighted the contrast between her twin daughters.
"I find my girls truly charming," the "New Year's Eve" star relayed. "It feels like a controlled study as you have one of one type and one of another."
Despite living under the glare of the spotlight, Parker strives to maintain a grounded parenting style. She acknowledges that the public may attain a somewhat unbalanced impression of her daughters, who she describes as intriguing and kind.
The third season of "And Just Like That...," which continues the "Sex and the City" legacy and features Parker in one of the lead roles, is now available.
